Wipro is preparing three internal executives for a high-level position

Wipro is reportedly preparing at least three of its current employees to take on the role of CEO, according to reports from Bengaluru. According to sources, the individuals mentioned are Srini Pallia, CEO for Americas 1, Suzanne Dann, CEO for Americas 2, and Pierre Bruno, CEO for Europe.Americas 1 and Americas 2 belong to the America strategic market unit, each catering to distinct industries.

Pallia has an impressive 32-year tenure at Wipro, where she has held various significant positions, including her role as the global head of business applications services. Dann joined Wipro in 2021, following a series of esteemed leadership positions at Avanade, IBM, and EY. Bruno also joined in 2021, following a successful 8-year tenure at DXC Technology and an impressive 14-year career at Dell. According to sources, Wipro intends to evaluate them by comparing them to external candidates. The CEO of Wipro, Thierry Delaporte, will be concluding his five-year tenure in July 2025. An email sent to Wipro regarding succession planning did not receive a response before the press deadline.

According to Phil Fersht, the CEO of consulting firm HfS Research, it is highly likely that Wipro will choose to promote its next leader from within the company. Delaporte was an experienced candidate who joined Wipro after spending 25 years at Capgemini. The previous CEO, Abidali Neemuchwala, had a background in TCS. Before that, the company considered internal candidates such as TK Kurien, Suresh Vaswani, and Girish Paranjpe.

However, whether the CEO is internal or external, according to Hansa Iyengar, a senior principal analyst at the London-based consulting firm Omdia, does not affect the problem with Wipro’s revenue growth, which has consistently lagged behind its rivals. The company, she says, has had highly skilled individuals leading the way.

“The problem lies within the ongoing inner politics that disrupt the firm’s operations and impact its ability to offer services to customers.
“Wipro confirmed early foresight in embracing the digital transformation fashion; however, inner conflicts hindered their progress, giving competitors an extensive benefit.

And they have been working to catch up ever since, which has made them more responsive than proactive in important areas,” she says.

Delaporte has been implementing a significant restructuring, which has raised concerns among industry observers about the pace of these changes. The departure of several long-serving top leaders, such as Rajan Kohli and Angan Guha, seems to indicate that. Approximately 75 senior VPs and 300 general managers also left the company within the first year after he assumed leadership. When evaluating the success of the transformation based on growth and margin, it appears that the desired results have not been achieved thus far.

Delaporte expressed his commitment to revitalising Wipro for the upcoming 5–10 years as he discussed the September quarter results with TOI. However, the crucial question remains: will there be a turnaround in revenue growth before the end of his term, which could potentially convince the Premjis to grant him a second term? If that doesn’t happen, or if he declines a second term, there may be a selection from the pool of potential successors.
