Tracy Chapman, who hasn't performed live on television for nine years, made a rare appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards

She sang her 1988 hit "Fast Car" with country musician Luke Combs, who introduced her to the song through his cover version.

The performance was poignant and evocative, with Taylor Swift joining in singing and other guests joining in.

The performance coincided with the 35th anniversary of Chapman's initial rendition of the song at the Grammy Awards in 1989.

Chapman's most recent live television performance was in 2015 when she sang "Stand By Me" on The Late Show With David Letterman.

The live television performance that Tracy Chapman gave at the 2024 Grammy Awards was the one that was shown all around the world.

A radio single in April 2020, "Fast Car" reached the second spot on the Hot 100 and topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart for weeks.

In November, Combs' "Fast Car" won Song of the Year at the CMA Awards, making Chapman the first black songwriter to do so.
