Country musician Toby Keith passed away at the age of 62 after a two-year diagnosis of stomach cancer.

Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are just some of the treatments that Keith has received over the course of his treatment.

His tumor had shrunk by one-third by the time June 2022 rolled around, and he was still getting chemotherapy at the time.

 His death has sparked a resurgence in doctors' calls for awareness about symptoms of gastric cancer.

Dr. Fabian Johnston, head of the gastrointestinal oncology department at Johns Hopkins Medicine, warns that many symptoms are harmless and can lead to delayed diagnosis.

A diagnosis is made at an average age of 68 years old, with men having a somewhat higher vulnerability to the disease.

By the end of this year, the American Cancer Society anticipates that there will be around 27,000 new cases of stomach cancer.

There is an increase in stomach cancer diagnoses among individuals below the age of 50, with the causes largely unknown
