Jim Harbaugh, former head coach of the University of Michigan, is returning to the NFL as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers announced the successful apprehending of Harbaugh, who led the team to its first national championship since 1997.

Harbaugh's appointment validates the rumors of his return to the NFL, following two off-seasons of discussions with the Minnesota Vikings and the Denver Broncos.

The Chargers terminated the employment of their former head coach and general manager last month after a 63-21 defeat by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Following the completion of two interviews, Harbaugh was the successful candidate for the head coaching position with the Chargers.

The new job that Harbaugh has taken with the Chargers represents his return to the team, making him the first person to really do so.

His other teams include the Chicago Bears, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Baltimore Ravens, all of which he has played for.

Harbaugh's on-field abilities first gained recognition when he began his football journey at the University of Michigan.
