In the city of Flint, Michigan, Councilman Eric Mays, who was well-known for his assertive personality, has passed away.

Mays, who was serving as the representative for the city's 1st Ward, was in his third term on the city council.

It was in November 2013 that Mays was elected to take over for Anita Brown as the representative for the northwest side of the city.

The city will be lowering the flag at Flint City Hall to half-staff in honor of Mays starting on Monday.

Eric Mays has been removed from his positions as vice president and chair of the finance committee by the Flint City Council.

As Mays was forced out of yet another meeting, tensions within the Flint City Council continued to rise.

A judge issues an order that permits a Flint councilman who has been suspended to resume attending meetings.

Regarding the most recent suspension from attending Flint council meetings, Eric Mays is making preparations to engage in a legal battle.

There will be no jail time for Eric Mays, a councilman from Flint, who was found guilty of disorderly conduct.
