Prime Minister Modi’s Visit to Bengal and Sandeshkhali Incident

Prime Minister Modi on March 6th and Home Minister Shah on February 29th is scheduled to visit West Bengal, despite the significant controversy surrounding Sandeshkhali. The trip is expected to address allegations of sexual harassment and extortion against leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which currently holds power in the region. Sukanta Majumdar, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), confirmed that Modi will attend a women’s rally in Barasat, Bengal, on March 6th.

Shajahan Sheikh, the strongman of the Trinamool Congress, and his supporters have been accused of “land-grab and sexually assaulting” a large number of women in Sandeshkhali. These allegations were made while they were under the influence of coercion imposed upon them. Since the assault on January 5 by a mob allegedly affiliated with Shajahan, officials from the Enforcement Directorate who had gone to search Shajahan’s premises in connection with an alleged ration scam have evaded capture, according to reports. The mob that carried out the assault was allegedly affiliated with Shajahan.

Uttam Sardar, a local party functionary, and Shiba Prasad Hazra, a member of the Morth 24 Parganas Zilla parishad, were both taken into custody by the police and are currently being held on charges of alleged gangrape and attempted murder. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the most prominent opposition party in Bengal, has asserted that the government of Mamata Banerjee is attempting to conceal the matter. As a response, the leader of the Trinamool party has made the accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is responsible for the insurrection that has been taking place on the island.
